Review: SD Goutaitei Sonken Gundam – Korinpaku

Some background information on this guy here, taken from the Gundam Wiki page. He appeared in the Senjin Kettou Hen stories, which is translated as “Decisive Battle of the War Gods Chapter”. Sonken Gundam is based off the character of Sun Quan and design wise, GP03. He’s known as the silent tiger, one who is a humble and compassionate noble. In the “Decisive Battle of the War Gods Chapter”, he was entrusted the Shin Koteitou by the spirit of his father Sonken Zephyranthes, in turn reawakening as the Goutaitei Sonken Gundam. The Goutaitei Sonken Gundam’s design is reminiscent of GP01-Fb, with the twin tiger claw armours like that of the Full Burners.

Like I’ve mentioned in my WIPs, the Sangokuden SD Gundams are seriously detailed gunplas. The Goutaitei Sonken Gundam is no exception. The intricate details all over the figure is what makes this SD figure worth paying for. Afterall, it costs the same price as that of a High Grade figure, so something has to be special about this kit.

After messing around with the kit for a while, I realised why Toymaker went to modify his Sonken Gundam. The articulation of the base body is really doing too little justice to the epic design of this figure! the figure has no elbow joints, which is a huge down side. Sure it’s an SD Gundam, but many new SDs have elbow joints. I guess some allowances have to be made to include in the Korinpaku figure, as well as the transformation gimmick of the figure.

The Korinpaku itself is a pretty solid figure, and the Legendary Beast mode of the Goutaitei is a very solid transformation as well. While some of the parts of the figure come off easily in part due to the design, the figure is very posable for a beast/animal gunpla. Personally, the Legendary Beast mode of Goutaitei feels more posable than the Korinpaku itself, probably due to the more bulkier design of the Legendary Beast mode.

I really enjoyed myself when I was building this gunpla. Would I get another Sangokuden kit? Probably not. Most of their designs don’t really dig me, but I mean a cool looking blue/gold tiger which becomes your armour, now that’s wicked. Though I’m tempted to get the Ryofu Tallgeese. But that’s probably after I’m done with my remaining 15 kits. XD

W.I.P: White Tiger Part 2

I’ve actually progressed way more than this, but I haven’t had the time to update because of my laziness busyness. I have to say that I’m very impressed by this kit. The amount of details on this SD scale gunpla is simply amazing. There’s quite a considerable amount of panel-lining to do. I mainly painted gold and silver onto the figure. I didn’t exactly follow the colour scheme of the figure; I made some very minor alterations with more gold/silver on certain parts of the figure etc.

Also, it seems that the pieces split off from the runners easily and leave not that much of a mark, which is really great cause it saves time when it comes down to filing the model and all. I really like how they used some kind of metallic grey on the figure instead of the dull boring grey we see on most gunplas.

Either ways, look out for new posts tomorrow. I’m probably gonna post on the Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2010, as well as a new review.

W.I.P: Project “White Tiger”

SD Blue Destiny Units 1 and 2 Complete!

Not really a review this time round, just some pictures. This is one of the older SD Gunpla releases, number 61 to be exact. Being an older release, it lacks a lot of posability. Its hands and arms are moulded in one single piece, so no wrist joints there. It can only hold the beam sabre, but not hold it at different angles and look cool. It has a single shoulder joint, meaning that it can only move up and down. Hence, these figures are really just for display only, and hence the lack of pictures.

Now if you look carefully, you’d notice that there’s a slight difference in colour between the chests. The left one is meant for Unit 2, while the right one is meant for Unit 1. There’s no difference in the chest colour between the 2 really, and the whole difference in colour is my own doing. Well, I was painting and inking part of Unit 2’s chest yesterday, and while using the “Gundam White” marker, the paint suddenly flowed out of the marker and all over the chest portion. While cleaning up the mess, some of the white stains on the model were really hard to get off. As a result, I went to search for my stores again and found the “TAMIYA COLOR – Blue” spray paint; leftovers again from my Providence Omega project. Hence, explaining the differences in colour. I didn’t want to spray paint the portion for Unit 1 as well, no particular reason as to why not though. I think it’s cool, Unit 2 might turn out cooler I guess.
